Brister Strings Together 3 Hits in Georgia State's Loss to UL Monroe

MONROE, Louisiana --Sophomore Lauren Brister totaled three hits, but the Georgia State Panthers fell to the UL Monroe Warhawks 7-3 Friday.

Senior Emily Hodnett (2-4) got the ball to start for Georgia State (8-19, ) and took the loss. Senior Sydney Boulware was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

In addition to her three hits, Brister had a double and an RBI to lead the Panthers. Sophomore Jordan Rayner furnished a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Senior Jaycee Goodwin also chipped in for Georgia State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 6-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Junior Maia Mumpfield came across to score the lone run of the inning for Georgia State and get them on the board.

The Warhawks expanded their lead to 7-1 before the Panthers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Georgia State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Rayner's single, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Warhawks. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES

» Brister led the Panthers, amassing three base hits in the ballgame.
» Georgia State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Georgia State went 3-for-9 (.333) with runners in scoring position.
» Georgia State pitchers faced 30 UL Monroe hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out two.
» Brister led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
 

Georgia State will look to bounce back tomorrow and earn a conference win against ULM.
