ATLANTA --The Georgia State Panthers had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to the Appalachian State Mountaineers 9-3 despite the efforts of junior Ashton Schroyer, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Senior Sydney Boulware (3-12) got the ball to start for Georgia State (11-36, ) and took the loss.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by Schroyer, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Bella Morton put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Kiki Edwards also helped out for Georgia State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Georgia State got on the board thanks to Schroyer's RBI double with two outs.
The Mountaineers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Georgia State plated two runs off of Appalachian State pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Morton, which brought the Panthers lead to 3-0. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Appalachian State scored nine times over the remaining five innings to grab the 9-3 win.
