ATLANTA-- Sophomore Makayla Stephens was mowing people down on Friday, punching out 10 Appalachian State hitters over 4.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Georgia State Panthers lost to the Mountaineers 10-1.
In addition to her 10 strikeouts, Stephens (3-10) went 4.2 innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on six hits and walking four for Georgia State (11-35, ).
Offensively, the Panthers were paced by senior Chloe Middlebrooks, who went 0-for-2 on the day with two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Freshman Ryleigh Garrett came across to score the lone run of the inning for Georgia State and get them on the board. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Appalachian State added four runs to their tally on the way to a 10-1 final.
