JONESBORO, Ark. – Georgia State launched four early home runs but couldn't slow down Arkansas State's offense, falling 13-4 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
The Panthers (24-21, 9-12 SBC) jumped out quickly with homers from Wills Maginnis, Jack Holley, Jesse Donohoe, and Cooper Milford in the first three innings. However, Arkansas State (22-21, 11-10 SBC) answered with eight runs over the first two innings and kept building, sweeping the weekend series.
Ross Norman (4-6) took the loss, lasting just 1.2 innings while allowing eight runs on nine hits. The Red Wolves took advantage early, highlighted by a three-run homer from Patrick Engskov and a five-run second inning that broke the game open.
After Georgia State got within 8-4 in the third, Arkansas State kept adding on. A solo homer by Cason Campbell in the fourth made it 9-4, and the Red Wolves tacked on two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to stretch their lead to 13-4.
Donohoe, who had another strong day at the plate, went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, and an RBI. Maginnis, Milford, and Holley each added solo home runs.
On the mound, Brian Crooms, Jacob Crews, and Ryan Lamar combined for 6.1 innings of relief, but the early damage was too much to overcome.
With the loss, Georgia State dropped its fourth straight Sun Belt contest and will look to bounce back when it returns to the GSU Baseball Complex on Wednesday to host in-state rival Mercer.
