ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia State scored nine runs in the third inning, but No. 5 Georgia answered with relentless offense, and the Panthers fell 10-16 on Tuesday night at Foley Field.
Jae Williams led the Georgia State (10-3) offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Carter Bailey also homered, while Michael Maginnis tallied three hits and an RBI.
The Bulldogs (15-1) built an early 5-0 lead before the Panthers erupted for nine runs in the third, highlighted by Williams' grand slam and a two-run double from Colin Hynek. Georgia State sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, taking a 9-5 lead.
Georgia responded immediately with three runs in the bottom of the third and took control with a four-run fourth inning, powered by a three-run homer from Ryland Zaborowski. The Bulldogs added five more runs over the next two innings to put the game out of reach.
Quin McManmon (0-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs in 2.2 innings, while Georgia State's bullpen combined for seven strikeouts over the final six frames. Georgia reliever Davis Chastain (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning in relief.
