Georgia State Falls to Old Dominion in Series Opener

HAMPTON, Va. – Georgia State fell behind early and couldn't recover as Old Dominion used a five-run sixth inning to hand the Panthers a 4-12 loss on Friday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.

The Panthers (15-8, 3-1 SBC) were held to seven hits but saw home runs from Kaleb Freeman and Cole Griffith. Freeman's solo shot in the sixth and Griffith's two-run homer in the seventh trimmed the deficit, but the Monarchs held on. Andon Lewis added two hits, including a double.

Old Dominion (6-13, 2-2 SBC) struck first with a run in each of the first two innings before breaking the game open with a three-run third, capped by a two-run homer from Tyler Zedalis. The Monarchs put the game out of reach with five more in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Tanner Schaedel.

Caleb White (4-2) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings. The Georgia State bullpen struggled, surrendering six runs on seven hits in the final three frames.

The Panthers look to even the series in Game Two on Saturday at 3 p.m.
