Panthers Host Marshall for Final Home Game

ATLANTA-- Georgia State hosts Marshall for its final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon at the GSU Convocation Center. 
 

Georgia State and Marshall are meeting for the sixth time in program history. The Panthers are 1-4 in the sereis after falling 97-69 to the Herd on Feb. 27, 2024. 


TOP STORY LINES: 

>Senior Mikyla Tolivert led the Panthers with 26 points in Gerogia State's 78-69 double-overtime win over South Alabama (Feb. 13). In the win, Mahogany Matthews recorded 11 blocks to tie the program record for single-game blocks. 

> With the double-overtime win over South Alabama, head coach Gene Hill  earned his 100th career win. 

> Mikyla Tolivert tallied a double-double and Eghosa Obasuyi scored 11 points as Georgia State topped Appalachian State 62-55 at the Holmes Center on Saturday afternoon. Tolivert led Georgia State with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds to record her sixth career double-double.  The senior from Melbourne, Florida also recorded four assists with three steals, and came up with a crucial block with 1:08 left to help the Panthers seal the win

> Junior guard Kaleigh Addie led the Panthers with 20 points and six rebounds in the Panthers' 66-62 win over Old Dominion on Jan. 29. Crystal Henderson was second on the Panthers' leaderboard with 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals, and Mikyla Tolivert chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. 

> The Panthers defeated the Chanticleers 75-72 at home on Jan. 22. Senior Mya Williams scored a career-high 24 points and went 9-for-9 from the three-point line to lead the Panthers to victory, breaking the program record for single-game three pointers. 

> After falling in game one against Georgia Southern, Georgia State defeated the Eagles in a triple-overtime decision on the road on Jan. 18. In the 88-83 win, the Panthers tied the program record for single-game three-pointers. Kaleigh Addie led the Panthers at the three-point line, going 5-for-7 from deep. 

> Georgia State clinched its first conference win at Texas State after three Panthers (Mikyla Tolivert, Crystal Henderson and Mya Williams) scored in double figures to lead the Panthers to a 59-51 win over the Bobcats. After trailing throughout the game, GSU went on a 22-6 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win. 

>The Panthers defeated Sewanee 107-49 to mark one of the largest margins of victory in program history (9th in program history).

> Georgia State opened the season with three Power 5 opponents, including Georgia Tech, Georgia and Alabama. Its season was highlighted by a 66-60 upset over Georgia. 

STATE IN THE SUN BELT: 

> The Panthers lead the Sun Belt in blocks per-game, averaging 4.7 pg. Mahogany Matthews, who leads the Panthers in blocks, also leads the conference and ranks second in the nation for total blocks with 86. She also leads the conference and ranks second in the nation for blocks per-game with 3.19. 

> Led by Mikyla Tolivert, who is top 10 in the conference in free-throw percentage, Georgia State ranks fourth in the conference in overall free throw percentage, averaging 71.6.  

> Led by Mya Williams, the Panthers also rank fifth in the conference for three-pointers per game (7.3). 

> The Panthers also rank top 10 in the Sun Belt for steals pg (2nd/ 11.4) and turnovers forced per-game (4th/ 19.67). 

> The Panthers finished the 2023-24 season ranking third in the Sun Belt in blocks per game (3.2) and bench points (23.7), which finished 38 in the nation. The Panthers also finished fourth in the conference in assists per game (13.6) and steals (9.6). 

TRACKING THE RECORD: 

> Veteran forward Mahogany Matthews broke the program record for single-season blocks with 82 so far this season. The record was previously set at 77, which was set by Marcquitta Head on December 3, 2006. 

> Mya Williams' nine 3-pointers made in the Panthers win over Coastal Carolina (Jan. 22) broke the program record for single-game threes, which was set in 2002. 

> Senior Mikyla Tolivert stands at 5th overall in the program for free throws made with 319. She is two free-throws away from taking the No. 4 spot of 320. 

> Tolivert joined the Panthers' thousand-point club after scoring her thousandth career point in the Panthers' win over Western Carolina (Nov. 19).

> Tolivert hit the record book in numerous occasions during the 2023-24 season, ranking third overall in program history for career free-throw percentage (80.7). She entered the single-game records five times last season; twice for single-game points, twice for single game free-throws made and once for single-game assists.

> Transfer Mya Williams totaled 56 three-pointers last season to take the sixth overall spot in program history for single-season three pointers.


Georgia State hits the road for the remainder of the season, heading to James Madison (Feb. 26) and Marshall (Feb. 28) before heading to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
