Five Panthers Score Double Figures to Roll Past LaGrange

ATLANTA – The Georgia State women's basketball team (6-8, 1-1 SBC) topped the LaGrange Panthers (5-4, 1-0 CCS) in a 85-55 victory at home Sunday afternoon in the GSU Convocation Center.

The Panthers had five players score in double figures, led by Grace Lanier and Crystal Henderson, who both had 14 points. Henderson also tacked seven assists and five steals, while Savannah Robinson-Holmes helped out with another 14 points and two steals off the bench.

Georgia State controlled the boards, grabbing 41 rebounds to LaGrange's 35. Kaleigh Addie led the way with six rebounds, and the Panthers turned 19 offensive rebounds into 26 second-chance points.

How It Happened

Georgia State opened with an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead with 8:45 left in the first quarter. The Panthers then doubled their lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 22-9 advantage. Georgia State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 22 points close to the basket.

Georgia State kept its first quarter lead intact by going on an 8-0 run starting at the 9:23 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 30-9. LaGrange attempted to cut into that lead, but the Panthers still sat with a 41-21 advantage heading into halftime. Georgia State help a strong presence from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 19 points.

Georgia State expanded its lead into the third quarter with a 7-0 run, expanding their lead to 48-24 with 6:51 left in the quarter. The Panthers entered the fourth quarter with a 62-42 edge. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.

Georgia State continued to pull away, building a 67-45 lead before going on a 6-0 run to push the advantage to 73-45 with 6:28 remaining. The Panthers steadily extended the margin and cruised to an 85-55 victory. GSU dominated inside, scoring 16 of its 23 points in the paint and making the most of its post opportunities.
