ATLANTA – The Georgia State volleyball team (10-6, SBC 1-4) fell to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (12-4, SBC 5-0) in straight sets Thursday night at home in the GSU Sports Arena.
Akira Burt powered the Panthers' attack with 11 kills on a strong .476 hitting percentage, as Marta Lazzarin paced the defense with 12 digs.
How It Happened
Set 1 | The Panthers fell behind early and dropped the opening set, 25-22. Coastal Carolina took control for good at 5-4 in a tightly contested frame that saw the score knotted up seven times before the Chanticleers pulled away late.
Set 2 | Georgia State came up short in the second set, 25-18. The Panthers trailed by as many as seven points, with Coastal regaining the upper hand at 2-1 after the score was even across the board on four different occasions.
Set 3 | The Chanticleers sealed the match in a hard-fought third set, edging Georgia State 27-25 to complete the sweep. The back-and-forth battle featured eight lead changes and 13 deadlocks, with neither team leading by more than four points throughout.
