ATLANTA – Georgia State women's soccer dropped its final home match of the regular season Friday night, falling 2-0 to James Madison at the GSU Soccer Complex. The loss moved the Panthers to 9-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in Sun Belt play.
The Dukes opened the scoring early, capitalizing in the sixth minute. Defender Selma Rajakangas fired home a rebound to give JMU a 1-0 advantage just 5:33 into the match.
James Madison doubled its lead in the 30th minute when Ginny Lackey finished from close range off an assist from Olivia Del Toro, making it 2-0 at the half.
Georgia State looked to pull one back before the break, with Aaliyah Faddoul forcing multiple saves from JMU goalkeeper Sofia DeCerb and Briana Hill testing her from distance. Still, DeCerb was sharp in goal with three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The Panthers continued to press forward in the second half, generating four more shots and earning a late corner, but were unable to break through a disciplined JMU defense. Faddoul led GSU with four shots, one on target, while Emily Glenn and Hill each added attempts on frame.
Goalkeeper Ariana Anderson finished with three saves in 90 minutes, while the Georgia State back line held the Dukes to just nine total shots.
The defeat marked Georgia State's first home loss since September 4 and only its second at the GSU Soccer Complex this season.
Georgia State will close out the regular season on the road next Wednesday at Old Dominion, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Norfolk, VA.
