ATLANTA – Georgia State Athletics mourns the passing of former men's basketball head coach Bob Reinhart, a beloved figure in Panther history and one of the most influential coaches in program tradition.
Reinhart led the Georgia State men's basketball program from 1985 to 1994, guiding the Panthers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1991, when the Panthers won the Trans America Athletic Conference tournament in Deland, Fla. During his nine seasons at the helm, Reinhart compiled 107 victories, a program record that stood for more than two decades.
Before arriving at Georgia State, Reinhart built a remarkable coaching resume that spanned high school, collegiate and professional basketball. A three-time state-champion head coach at Decatur High School, Reinhart later joined the Atlanta Hawks as an assistant coach before taking over the Georgia State program. His passion for the game and commitment to his players left a lasting legacy on and off the court.
Reinhart was inducted into the Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame with the Class of 2022. The following year, he was inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame, an honor that recognized not only his achievements at Georgia State but also his decades of dedication to the sport in the city he called home for nearly 50 years.
Georgia State Athletics extends its heartfelt condolences to Coach Reinhart's family, former players and other members of the Georgia State community who has been impacted by his loss, and the many lives he touched throughout his extraordinary career.
