Panthers Fall 10-5 to Jacksonville State

ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State fell vs. Jacksonville State 10-5 Tuesday at the GSU Baseball Complex

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Will Mize doubled off the left field wall and Jesse Donohoe drove him in with a 2-out RBI single through the middle.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the fourth when Matt Ruiz drove a ball over the center field wall for his fourth home run of the year. The homer cut the Gamecocks' lead to 4-2.

Jacksonville State expanded their lead to 10-2. The Panthers kept fighting and with two outs in the ninth Jae Williams drove in Henry Koehler with a RBI single into left field. Next up to bat was Colin Hynek who drilled a home run down the left-field line for his third homer of the year. The Panther rally would end there as Jacksonville State starter Austin Cornelius would get the final out and finish off the complete game.

The Panthers had a staff day and had eight different pitchers take the hill throughout the game. The bright spot of the pitching staff came from Jack Butler who pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and only one walk.

Georgia State returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, May 1st as they travel to Macon to take on in-state rival the Mercer Bears. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
