ATLANTA --
Dylan Strickland's 2-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Georgia State to a 5-4 win over Kennesaw State Tuesday at the GSU Baseball Complex. That is the second late, game-winning of the season for Strickland, who also delivered the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning for the series-clinching win over James Madison two weeks ago.
Georgia State (19-17) trailed 2-0 in the seventh inning when
Jae Williams came off the bench for a pinch-hit, 2-run homer to tie the game.
One inning later,
Michael Maginnis gave GSU a 3-2 lead with a solo homer, his eighth of the season and fourth in the last four games.
Kennesaw State (20-15) got a pinch-hit, 2-run single by Donovan Cash in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3.
JoJo Jackson led off the bottom of the ninth for Georgia State with a walk and with one out moved to on a pair of wild pitches. Then Strickland hit the 3-1 pitch from reliever Daniel Powell (1-2) well over the left field fence for the win.
Both starters pitched well. Georgia State freshman
Sam Schofield pitched four innings and allowed just one run on two hits, and KSU's Halton Hardy tossed five scoreless innings.
The Panthers had just six hits in the game, but three of them were home runs.
Georgia State goes on the road this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference series at Troy.
