ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 14-6 in its series opener against James Madison Thursday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The Panthers (13-12, 5-2 Sun Belt) got home runs from
Will Mize and
Jesse Donohoe but hurt themselves by with four errors and two passed balls, leading to seven unearned runs.
James Madison (16-10, 3-4 Sun Belt) jumped in front with six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam by Jason Schiavone. But GSU made three errors in the inning and all six runs were unearned.
Mize hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first, his seventh of the season, and Donohoe's 2-run homer in the fourth was his third long-ball in the last four games.
Ryan Dyal had a 2-run triple in the sixth, and
Michael Maginnis added an RBI-single.
Freshman pitcher
Sam Schofield was a bright spot for the Panthers, finishing the game with 3.1 scoreless innings.
The series continues with a 6 p.m. game Friday and then the series finale Saturday at noon.
