ATLANTA - Freshman
Francesca Miglio went 4-0 on the weekend collecting two doubles victories and two singles victories. Georgia State (5-11) fell 4-3 to South Alabama (9-3) on Saturday, but bounced back to defeat Southern Miss (4-7) 4-2 on Sunday.
GSU vs USA
The Panthers started off strong in doubles as Miglio partnered with
Maria Paredes to take a 6-0 victory on court No. 2. On court No. 1, Alba Retortillo and
Pragnya Kumar followed up with a 6-4 victory, clinching the doubles point for the Panthers.
Georgia State headed into singles play at a 1-0 advantage. Miglio quickly put another point on the board for the Panthers with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 3. After losing the first set on singles court No. 6,
Pragnya Kumar notched a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory, adding a third point for the Panthers.
Despite close competition on all remaining courts, the Panthers fell on singles courts No. 1, 2, 4, and 5, making the overall match score 4-3 for South Alabama.
GSU vs USM
Doubles pair Miglio and Paredes posted another 6-0 sweep on doubles court No. 2 to start off the match against Southern Miss. The Panthers then took the doubles point as
Luciana Galvez and
Sara Radojevic won 6-2 on court No. 3.
Miglio competed at singles court No. 3, defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-5 and staying undefeated on the weekend. Paredes posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the top singles court, adding a third point for the Panthers.
After dropping matches on courts No. 5 and 6, Retortillo clinched the match for the Panthers in a three-set thriller on court No. 2, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. The Panthers took down the Golden Eagles 4-2.
Georgia State will host Troy on Saturday March 30.
