ATLANTA -- The Dell McGee era of Georgia State football hit the practice field for the first time Tuesday as the Panthers resumed spring practice under their new head coach.
"Overall, I thought it was a pretty good first day," McGee said after the morning workout at Center Parc Stadium. "I thought our kids were very enthusiastic and our coaches were organized. Of course we have things to clean up. We are establishing our base fundamentals and the culture that we want to build at practice, but really a good first day."
Today's workout was the first of 13 sessions of spring practice under McGee, which will culminate with the Spring Game, scheduled for Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium. Admission is free.
McGee and the Panthers embark on spring practice with a pair of veteran coordinators at the helm in offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and Kevin Sherrer as defensive coordinator.
"That experience helps," McGee said. "They understand how we practice and how we do things. I know I can trust them to take care of their side of the ball so I can take care of a lot of other things. They are two guys I've worked with before and know, but I also know the demand excellence on both sides of the ball and are leaders of men."
McGee said that his team has adapted to the transition.
"They are handling it fine," he said. "It's a really nice group of young men. Very high character, hard-working kids, and they've been willing to do everything we've asked them to do."
