BOONE, NC - Georgia State women's tennis (4-10) fell 4-1 to Appalachian State (14-9) and 4-3 to Marshall (11-6) over the weekend. The Panthers competed in a close match on Sunday morning against Marshall, dropping the match by one point.
GSU vs App State
Georgia State played App State on Saturday morning in Boone, NC. The Panthers entered singles at a 1-0 disadvantage after dropping doubles matches on courts No. 2 and No. 3.
Freshman
Francesca Miglio competed at the third singles flight, earning a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win to add a point for the Panthers. Miglio has now improved to four singles victories on the season.
Despite strong performance from the freshman, Georgia State dropped matches on the first, second, and fourth singles flights to make the score 4-1 for the Mountaineers.
GSU vs Marshall
On Sunday morning, the Panthers faced Marshall in Huntington, WV. After dropping the doubles point and three singles points, the Panthers lost the match 4-0.
Despite Marshall clinching, the match went on, leading the Panthers to add three singles points on the board. Alba Retortillo competed in a close match at the second singles flight, earning a 7-6(8), 4-6, 10-8 victory.
Maria Paredes posted strong a singles performance at the top flight, taking down her opponent 7-6(6), 4-6, 10-5. The last point for the Panthers was acquired by
Pragnya Kumar at the sixth singles flight as she posted a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 decision.
The Panthers look to bounce back as they host South Alabama on March 23 and Southern Miss on March 24.
