Panthers Fall 4-3 to No. 20 South Carolina

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- Georgia State fell to No. 20 South Carolina 4-3 Thursday at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C.

Taylor Shultz, Ryan Dyal and Maximus Martin each had run-scoring doubles for the Panthers (8-9), who led 2-1 after four innings.

Georgia State starter Quin McManmon pitched four strong innings, allowing one run on three hits with a career-high six strikeouts. McManmon and relievers Brian Garmon (2), Aidan McEvoy (3) and Hunter Varnadoe (2) totaled 13 strikeouts on the night while limiting the Gamecocks to seven hits.

Trailing 1-0, the Panthers took the lead with two runs in the third inning. Henry Koehler led off with an opposite field double to the left field corner and moved to third on a fly ball. Taylor Shultz doubled to almost the same spot as Koehler to bring home the first run. Then Ryan Dyal smacked Georgia State's third double of the inning, off the top of wall in right, to score Shultz for a 2-1 lead.

South Carolina (14-3) tied the game with a run in the fifth and then moved ahead with two in the sixth.

Martin delivered Georgia State's third RBI-double in the seventh inning, but the Panthers could get no closer.
