Panthers Fall to Old Dominion

ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State women's basketball team held Old Dominion to just 35.9 percent shooting from the field, but fell 67-51 to the Monarchs at home Saturday.

The Panthers (15-12, 9-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Crystal Henderson, who had 13 points, five assists and two steals. Mikyla Tolivert tacked on 12 points, three steals and two blocks and Alyssa Phillip added eight points and two blocks.

The Georgia State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Old Dominion turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Tolivert's three steals led the way individually for the Panthers.

How It Happened

Georgia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 21-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Old Dominion kept adding to that lead, building a 27-12 advantage before Georgia State went on a 7-0 run to narrow its deficit to 27-19. The Panthers continued to chip away, reducing the Old Dominion lead to 32-27 heading into the break.

Georgia State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Panthers faced a 54-42 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 15 points in the paint.

Georgia State came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Tolivert's layup, to shrink the deficit to 54-47 with 8:11 to go in the contest. Old Dominion responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 67-51. Georgia State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring three of its nine total points.
