Panthers Fall to Texas State

ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State fell to Texas State 68-59 Saturday at the GSU Convocation Center.

Dwon Odom led the Panthers (13-15, 7-9 Sun Belt) with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Jay'Den Turned pulled down 10 rebounds.

But the Panthers struggled offensively, commiting a season-high 17 turnovers after averaging fewer than 10 per game for the season.

Georgia State limited Texas State to 37.9 percent shooting from the field, but the Bobcats collected 10 offensive rebounds, leading to 14 second-chance points.

"Give credit to Texas State, but you cannot turn the ball over 17 times and expect to win many games at any level," head coach Jonas Hayes said.

"Defensively, we gave up 68 points on 81 possessions - good enough to win ballgames. But offensively we failed ourselves. We gave up possession after possession after possession, and to along with those 17 turnovers, our shot selection was poor."

The game featured 13 lead changes and six ties, all in the first half. After Odom gave the Panthers a 30-29 lead on a pull-up jumper with 56 left in the first half, Texas State scored with 37 seconds left to take a 31-30 lead into the locker room, and the Bobcats never trailed again.

Georgia State plays its final two regular-season games next week, both at home, beginning Wednesday vs. James Madison at 7 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center. For tickets, visit GeorgiaStateSports.com/tix.
