Edwards, McMullen Score Double-Doubles in Georgia State's 74-71 Victory Against Tulsa

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Cesare Edwards and Nick McMullen both recorded double-doubles to help lead the Georgia State men's basketball team over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 74-71 at The Reef at FSCJ Wednesday.

The Panthers (4-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Zarique Nutter, who had 22 points. Edwards tacked on a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds and McMullen chipped in as well with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Georgia State grabbed 46 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to Tulsa's 32, led by Edwards' 16 boards. The Panthers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 14 rebounds into 10 second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 5-3, Georgia State went on a 9-0 run with 17:17 left in the first half to take a 12-5 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 35-34 advantage. Georgia State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 35 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Georgia State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 63-61 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Nutter's layup, to grow the lead to 69-61 with 4:29 to go in the contest. The Golden Hurricane narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 74-71 win.
