Historic Shooting Night Leads Panthers to 93-79 Victory Over NC Central

ATLANTA, GA --Toneari Lane, Nick McMullen, and Zarique Nutter each put up at least 20 points to help lead the Georgia State men's basketball team over the North Carolina Central Eagles 93-79 at home Friday. The Panthers shot 70.2% from the field, second in team history. 

Lane led the Panthers (3-2) with 23 points. McMullen added a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Nutter chipped in as well with 20 points and six rebounds.

The Georgia State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down nine threes on 17 attempts. Lane was the most prolific shooter for the Panthers, draining four treys in the contest.

Georgia State did a great job disrupting North Carolina Central shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Cesare Edwards led the way individually for the Panthers with five rejections.

How It Happened

After falling behind 38-27, Georgia State went on a 14-0 run with 3:57 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Nutter, to take a 41-38 lead. The Panthers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 43-38 advantage. Georgia State got out and ran in the period, scoring 13 points on the break.

Following intermission, Georgia State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 53-47 before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 61-47 with 12:05 to go in the contest. The Panthers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 93-79 win.
