EAST HARTFORD, Conn. --Georgia State fell 34-27 to UConn on the road Friday night.
"It's not the result that we wanted, but still very proud of our team," head coach Dell McGee said. "But it's time to wash this game and focus on the next one."
Zach Gibson led Georgia State's passing attack with 257 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown and one interception. The starting quarterback also tacked on 16 yards and one touchdown on the ground late in the fourth quarter to lessen the Huskies' advantage to one touchdown.
Ted Hurst was the first to score for the Panthers, with a 7-yard reception to start the Panthers off. Hurst totaled seven catches for 91 yards and one score against the Huskies.
Freddie Brock totaled 78 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 7.8 yards per carry along the way. Brock's performance was highlighted by a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Henry Bryant showed out for the Georgia State defense, recording 1.0 TFL, one sack and one recovered fumble.
The Panthers forced one turnover in Friday's contest, with Georgia State turning that takeaway into three points. The Georgia State offense converted on 47.1 percent of third-down attempts and went 3-for-3 on fourth down conversions.
Defensively, Georgia State held the Huskies to 346 total yards.
How It Happened
Georgia State responded to an early 10-0 UConn lead with a second quarter touchdown to narrow the deficit to 10-7.The Panthers kept UConn off the scoreboard and followed with a field goal to tie it up at 10-10.
UConn fought back to take a 20-10 lead before Georgia State put a field goal on the board to close the gap with 4:36 left in the third quarter and make it a 20-13 game.UConn scored to expand its lead to 34-13 before the Panthers got on the scoreboard again to cut into the lead and make it a 34-20 game.
Georgia State scored again, a touchdown with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, but remained behind 34-27. The Panthers tied for an on-side kick, but the Huskies recovered to ultimately end the game.
