Panthers Set Season-High 218 yards in 35-20 loss to Marshall

ATLANTA-- Georgia State put together a huge 218-yard performance on the ground, including 124 yards from Freddie Brock,, but fell 35-20 to Marshall Thursday night on the road at Joan C Edwards.

"Disappointing loss tonight," head coach Dell McGee said. "I'm proud of how Zach Gibson played. He made some plays with his legs and made good decisions in the passing game."

Despite the loss, the Panthers marked a season-high 218 rushing yards, including a game-high 56-yarder from Freddie Brock. 

Zach Gibson led Georgia State's passing attack with 192 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns without throwing an interception.

Brock totaled 124 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack in the game, picking up 6.9 yards per carry along the way. Michel Dukes also tacked on 41 yards on the ground, picking up 6.8 yards per carry, as well as 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Dorian Fleming reeled in seven catches for 66 yards.

Damaine Wilson showed out for the Georgia State defense, recording five tackles and one interception. Team added and Jaylen Jones had in the loss.

The Panthers won the turnover battle in Thursday's game, forcing one turnover while avoiding any giveways, with Georgia State turning that takeaway into three points. Georgia State had a powerful performance on the ground, racking up 218 rushing yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

Defensively, Georgia State held up fairly well against the Marshall passing attack, holding the Thundering Herd to 132 yards through the air.

How It Happened

Marshall opened up an 18-0 lead, but Georgia State responded with 11:15 left in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 18-3.Another Panthers score then cut the deficit to 18-10.

Marshall scored to increase their lead to 25-10 before Georgia State answered with 5:51 left in the third quarter and cut the lead to 25-17.The Panthers then got on the scoreboard again, narrowing the gap to 25-20. Georgia State didn't score again in the game and Marshall added 10 more points to finish off the scoring.
