ATLANTA -
Bryan Silva scored his first goal of the season and
Ethan Sassine scored his team-leading third goal as Georgia State battled to a 2-2 draw with Wofford on Tuesday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The tie moved Georgia State to 1-1-2 and extended their unbeaten streak against Wofford to four games dating back to 2009.  The Terriers fell to 0-2-2 and remain winless on the season.
Silva wasted no time getting the Panthers on the board first as he took a pass from
Bryan Akongo in the box and dribbled around a defender before finding the back of the net to put GSU up 1-0 in the third minute.
The score remained that way until the 43rd minute when Nikolai Rojel drew a foul in the box and banked the ball off the left post into the goal on the ensuing penalty kick to even the score 1-1 heading into halftime.
Ethan Sassine put the Panthers back on top again two minutes into the second half when he beat the Wofford keeper to the ball in the box on a feed from
Hideto Gondo and made contact with the ball above his head with his foot to find the back of the net and give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. But the Terriers responded again seven minutes later when Rojel squeezed the ball between the keeper and the right post to the back of the net for his second of the goal of the night to make it 2-2.
GSU outshot Wofford 12-10 and took the last six shots of the match in the final 11 minutes looking for the go-ahead goal, but could not come through.
Justin McLean led the Panthers with three shots and had two excellent looks in the last ten minutes, but his first hit the top post with eight minutes left, and his second was blocked with 26 seconds remaining.
Josh Acevedo also had a good look with 1:12 left, but his header from Akongo was saved by the keeper.
The Panthers will travel to Asheville, North Carolina to face UNC Asheville on Saturday, September 9. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
