Mitchell Shines in Loss to Marshall

ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State fell in four sets to Marshall (22-25, 25-20, 14-25, 21-25) during Thursday night's home contest at the GSU Sports Arena.

Despite the loss, two Panthers tallied double-digit kills Aaliyah Mitchell (16) and Izzy Durnell (13). Defensively, GSU had three players reach double figures in digs, including Livy Kowalkowski's 18, 15 from Erin Wyatt, and 14 more from Jexsamarie Perez. From the front row, Akira Burt contributed six blocks. 

The Panthers will look to rebound in tomorrow's match against the Herd. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena. Fans can follow the action on ESPN+ or via live stats.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-22. Marshall never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Thundering Herd took control.

SET 2 | Georgia State tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 set-two win. The Panthers took control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way. Georgia State led by as many as seven points at 18-11 before closing out the set. The Georgia State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza. Georgia State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Marshall attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Marshall grabbed a 2-1 match lead after defeating the Panthers in set three. The Panthers lost the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set 25-14.

SET 4 | Georgia State then dropped the fourth set 25-21 to finish off the match. The Panthers trailed by as many as six points as Marshall grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 and Georgia State was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up two times before the Thundering Herd took over the lead.
