MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Georgia State women's soccer cruised to a 5-1 victory on the road over Alabama State on Sunday at ASU Soccer Complex. The Panthers charted a total of 41 shots with 21 shots on goal, while limiting the Hornets to just 3 shots on the day.
GSU opened the scoring as Seika Ikezoe connected on her first career goal for the Panthers in the 28' minute, assisted by Paula Boza. The team added to its lead in the 49' minute as Elena Diaz found the back of the net for the third time this season to make it a 2-0 count in the Panthers' favor.
After a goal by Alabama State narrowed the margin to 2-1 in the 54' minute, the Panthers took a 3-1 lead with a goal from Alondra Nieves off an assist from Diaz in the 63' minute.Â
GSU took a 4-1 advantage with a goal from Olivia Shaw in the 69' minute, assisted by Nieves. The Panthers made it a 5-1 count following a goal from Brooke Hart on a PK in the 85' minute, her third goal of the season.
The Panthers improve to 4-1-3 overall with the win.
The Panthers return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 17 and will travel for an in-state matchup against conference rival Georgia Southern. Match time is slated for 4 p.m. ET with ESPN+ set to broadcast the match.
