Ryerson, Ruiz Homer in Loss at No. 5 Vanderbilt

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 11-5 at No. 5 Vanderbilt Tuesday at Hawkins Field. Matt Ruiz and Max Ryerson homered for the Panthers.

Ruiz gave GSU (24-22) an early 1-0 lead first with a solo homer, his seventh of the season, to right center field in the second inning.

Making his first start, freshman right-hander Quin McManmon held the Commodores hitless for the first three innings before allowing a pair of solo homers in the fourth and giving way to the bullpen.

That started a six-run fourth inning for the Commodores, including three solo homers and three doubles.

Georgia State got two runs back in the fifth on an RBI-single by Cameron Jones and an RBI-groundout by Dylan Strickland to pull within 6-3.

Max Ryerson led off the seventh inning with a towering home run over the wall in left field, his 14th of the season to equal Luke Boynton for the team lead. He now has 36 homers in two seasons at Georgia State and 45 for his career.

Two batters later, Ruiz tripled to the right field corner and scored on a wild pitch.

Georgia State, which has won four of its last five games, travels to Texas State for a Sun Belt series that begins Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
