Women's Tennis Drops Narrow 4-3 Decisions Facing Texas State, Louisiana

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's tennis closed 2023 home competition on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of tightly contested 4-3 losses facing Sun Belt Conference opponents Texas State and Louisiana. Despite competing with only four active roster members, the outings in Atlanta were highlighted by back-to-back singles wins in each match by seniors Alexia Alvarez and Michelle Ncube.

The Panthers recognized Senior Day on Sunday as Ncube and Alvarez were honored prior to the team's final home match for the spring. Ncube teamed with Pragnya Kumar for a 6-3 win at the top doubles court entering the match against Louisiana.

With a default at the third court, GSU saw defeat at the second court and dropped the early doubles point. With defaults at singles courts No. 5 and No. 6, the Panthers entered singles play 3-0 down for the match.

Maria Paredes charted a three-set victory at the top singles court to go with Ncube and Alvarez securing points for the team at courts No. 2 and No. 3. The effort would not be enough, as GSU fell at court No. 4 and dropped the match facing the Rajin' Cajuns, 4-3.

GSU began the weekend by hosting Texas State at Peachtree City Tennis Center on Saturday. After dropping in doubles, a loss  by the Panthers at the fourth singles court would give Texas State a fourth point in the match and clinch match point in the Bobcats' favor.

The Panthers fall to 1-15 following the losses at home. GSU returns to conference action next week with road matches facing SBC foe ULM on Friday, April 14, followed by Arkansas State on Sunday, July 16
