Panthers Split Weekend Road Trip in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.— Georgia State men's tennis closed the week of competition charting a split in match play on the road facing Sun Belt Conference opponents Troy and No. 74 South Alabama on Sunday and Monday. Sophomore Edward Tymes led the Panthers with a team-best 3-1 mark for singles and doubles play for both matches as the team secured a 4-3 victory over Troy on Sunday, followed by a 5-2 loss facing South Alabama on Monday.

Tymes posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory in straight sets at the fifth singles court facing Troy, and partnered with teammate Harrison Kim for a 6-4 win at the third doubles court. The sophomore would also notch a three-set win over South Alabama on Monday to secure the team's second point of the match.

GSU opened doubles play facing Troy on Sunday and secured the early point for a 1-0 lead entering singles. The No. 3 doubles win by Tymes and Kim clinched the first point in the match for the Panthers following a one-sided 6-0 win at the top court by Roberts Grinvalds and Gabriele Datei.

Tymes added a second point to the team's point total with the win at No. 5 singles. Diogo Morais saw victory at the third singles court with a 6-2, 6-3 win in straight sets to give GSU a 3-0 advantage for the match.

Grinvalds charted a three-set win at the second singles court to clinch match point for the Panthers. Playing out competition, the Panthers' battle against Troy ended at a 4-3 final count in GSU's favor and earned the team its second consecutive conference victory.

Monday saw the team face No. 74-ranked South Alabama. Despite tightly contested outings at every court, the Panthers fell in the match, 5-2.

GSU currently charts a 5-15 overall record for the spring with a 2-4 mark in conference play.
