Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision Facing Troy

TROY, Ala.— Georgia State women's tennis (1-13) fell short of victory on the road facing Sun Belt Conference foe Troy on Saturday. Despite the team's loss, the match was highlighted by strong singles performances by Eva Chivu at the top court and Michelle Ncube at the third court.

Chivu posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory in straight sets at the No. 1 singles court position for GSU. Ncube added a second point to the team's total with a 6-3, 7-5 straight-set win at the third court.

The Panthers entered Saturday charting a one-sided 6-0 victory at the top doubles court. With a default at the third court, GSU fell short of securing the doubles point with a narrow 6-4 loss at the second court.

After dropping at the fourth singles court position and falling behind 3-0 for the match, the wins in singles by Chivu and Ncube narrowed the team's deficit and brought the count to 3-2. GSU ultimately came up short at courts two and five and saw defeat, 5-2.

GSU returns to action next weekend hosting a pair of conference outings in Atlanta facing Texas State and Louisiana. Further information on the Panthers' home matches will follow later in the week.
