HUNTINGTON - Georgia State dropped Game One of this weekend's series against Marshall, falling 6-1 on Saturday morning at Dot Hicks Field.
Marshall ace Sydney Nester (17-2) pitched all seven innings, limiting Georgia State (13-20, 2-5 Sun Belt) to just one run on one hit with two walks and seven strikeouts to earn the complete-game victory.
Chloe Nadler managed GSU's lone hit with a double and a stolen base in the sixth inning.
With GSU trailing 1-0,
Chloe Middlebrooks reached on an error by the shortstop in the third, stole second and then scored on another throwing error to tie the game 1-1.
Elle Doolittle (6-5) pitched all six innings for the Panthers, including a scoreless second, third, and fourth frames before Marshall (29-3, 5-0) pulled out front for good with four runs on three hits and an error in the fifth and one run on a homer in the sixth.
The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2 at 10 a.m.
