Panthers Host Sun Belt Leader Southern Miss for Alumni Day

THE TIPOFF: Coming off a win over in-state rival Georgia Southern, Georgia State hosts Sun Belt co-leader Southern Miss on Alumni Day at the GSU Convocation Center, Saturday at 2 p.m.

> The Panthers are 10-5 this season at the GSU Convocation Center.

> Georgia State earned a 64-60 win over Georgia Southern Thursday as Brenden Tucker (20 points) and Jamaine Mann (18) combined for 38 points. The Panthers used an 11-0 run early in the second half to take the lead for good and then held off the Eagles down the stretch, thanks in part to a huge blocked shot by Mann and a charge taken by Tucker in the final 90 seconds.

> Southern Miss (20-4, 9-2) has won six in a row to share the Sun Belt lead with Louisiana.

> Since returning from injury (thumb), sophomore guard Collin Moore has made an immediate impact, averaging 10.5 ppg for his first five games of the season. Moore had a career-high 17 points with five rebounds at Georgia Southern in his second game, and then in Thursday's home win over the Eagles, he had career highs with 11 rebounds and four steals.

> Over the last three games, Jamaine Mann is averaging 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds, including 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the win over Georgia Southern. For the season, he averages 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.

> Ja'Heim Hudson scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Panthers to a 100-66 win over Coastal Carolina (Jan. 14) in which GSU set season-highs for points, 3-pointers (16), field goal percentage (.638) and assists (26) while holding the Chanticleers to 35 percent shooting. 

> Hudson averages 10.5 points on the season and leads GSU in rebounding (7.2/9th in Sun Belt), blocked shots (20) and steals (25).

> Junior guard Brenden Tucker is averaging a team-high 13.3 ppg in Sun Belt play (12.2 overall), including two 20-point games. He recorded season highs with 25 points and six rebounds at ULM, including 10-of-13 free throws. Last week, Tucker scored 21 points vs. Troy and 19 vs. Coastal Carolina.

> Sophomore guard Dwon Odom leads the Panthers in scoring (13.3 ppg) and assists (3.6/No. 7 in Sun Belt) while ranking second on the team in steals (22) and blocked shots (15) and third in rebounding.

> Odom has reached 20 points four times, including a career-high 27 in the win over UNC Asheville and 24 vs. Belmont. He handed out a career-high 11 assists vs. Coastal Carolina.

> Georgia State ranks No. 2 in the Sun Belt in free throw shooting at 71.7 percent. Individually, Dwon Odom (.824) is fourth and Brenden Tucker (.753) is eighth.

> Georgia State has made at least one 3-point field goal in 853 straight games, dating back to the 1994-95 season. The last team to hold the Panthers without a trey was Stetson on Feb. 18, 1995. The streak is among the top 25 in the nation.

SERIES NOTES: Georgia State and Southern Miss are meeting for the first time as Sun Belt Conference foes.

> Most recently, the teams played four straight years from 2012-13 through 2015-16, with Georgia State winning three of those four. The Panthers won the last meeting 66-46 on Dec. 19, 2015 at Southern Miss and the last meeting in Atlanta, 68-55 on Dec. 14, 2014.

> The series is tied at 2-2 in Atlanta, but Southern Miss holds a 6-5 edge in the overall series, which began in 1973-74.
