Phillip Nets Career-High at Coastal

CONWAY – Alyssa Phillip scored a career-high 14 points but Georgia State fell to Coastal Carolina 79-59 at the HTC Center on Wednesday night.

Phillip shot 6-of-9 from the floor with four rebounds to top her previous high of 12 points against Agnes Scott in the season-opener and against Georgia Southern in 2022.

Christeina Bryan scored nine points and six rebounds on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting performance, and Mikyla Tolivert, Nyla Jean and Zay Dyer each added eight points with Tolivert dishing out a team-high four assists.

Georgia State (11-19) outrebounded Coastal Carolina 33-30 and dished out 17 assists but couldn't overcome a Chanticleer offense that shot 50 percent from the field.  Aja Blount led CCU (13-15, 8-9) with 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Deaja Richardson added 22 points.

The Chanticleers took control early with a 19-4 run to open the game.  GSU pulled within seven on a jumper by Christeina Bryan with 1:21 left in the second quarter but would get no closer.

Georgia State will play their final game of the regular season on Friday, Feb. 24, hosting in-state rival Georgia Southern for Senior Day at the GSU Convocation Center.  Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.
