Panthers Fall in Final Home Game

ATLANTA -- Brenden Tucker scored 19 points but Georgia State fell 78-52 to Appalachian State in the Panthers' final home game at the GSU Convocation Center.

Graduating seniors Kalik Brooks and Joe Jones III were honored before the game.

Collin Moore had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals for GSU, while Jamaine Mann pulled down nine rebounds. Kaleb Scott, playing increased minutes while Ja'Heim Hudson is sidelined, contributed eight points and four rebounds.

But Panthers (10-19, 3-14 Sun Belt) could not contain the hot-shooting Mountaineers (16-14, 9-8), who went 14-for-21 from 3-point range, including 6-for-9 by Christopher Mantis, who scored 22 points in 22 minutes.

"We've got to find ways to be better," head coach Jonas Hayes said. "Even through all the adversity thrown at us, we've got to find a way to overcome it, and we didn't do that tonight.

"We didn't apply enough ball pressure from the beginning, so they just felt so comfortable running their offense. We've got to be better there. We've got to find ways to fight forward."

Despite the disappointing game, Hayes made a point to show appreciation for his two seniors.

"I appreciate what our two graduating seniors, Kalik and Joe, have meant for this program," Hayes said. "I want to thank them for everything they've given to this program: blood, sweat and tears, effort, enthusiasm and love. I do appreciate those guys."

The Panthers finish the regular season Friday with at 8 p.m. at James Madison. The Sun Belt Championship begins next Tuesday in Pensacola, Fla.
