Carroll Named Semifinalist for Doak Walker Award

ATLANTA -- Georgia State running back Marcus Carroll is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2023 Doak Walker National Collegiate Running Back Award, announced Tuesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

The senior from Union City, Ga. (Hapeville Charter) has rushed for 1,293 yards and a school-record 13 touchdowns. He is just the second Georgia State player to be a semifinalist for a major college football award, joining punter Brandon Wright, a 2018 semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award.

Three finalists for the 2023 Doak Walker Award will be announced a week from today and the winner will be unveiled live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8. The formal presentation of the award will take place here on the SMU campus at the annual banquet scheduled for Feb. 16, 2024.

Carroll ranks No. 4 in FBS in rushing yards, No. 6 in all-purpose yards and No. 11 in rushing touchdowns. He has seven 100-yard games, including four games with 150 or more yards.

Just the second 1,000-yard rusher in program history, Carroll is 160 yards behind the GSU season record of 1,453 (Tra Barnett, 2019).

After topping the 2,000-yard milestone for career yards vs. LSU, he now has 2,079 yards to rank third in GSU history.

Over his last 15 games, Carroll has rushed for 1,622 yards and 18 touchdowns, including five of the Top 10 single-game performances in program history,
highlighted by his 208-yard performance vs. Georgia Southern for the second-best single game total in GSU annals.

Carroll has helped the Panthers reach bowl eligibility for the fifth time in seven seasons under head coach Shawn Elliott. Georgia State concludes the regular season Saturday at Old Dominion.
