ATLANTA, -- Georgia State and James Madison played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday, October 19, at the GSU Soccer Complex. The match was a showcase of stellar goalkeeping by Jaddah Foos, who made seven remarkable saves. Her outstanding performance earned her a well-deserved fourth shutout of the season.
In the opening moments of the game, James Madison wasted no time, launching an early shot just over the crossbar. The 14th minute saw Jaddah Foos making her first crucial save of the night. Georgia State, eager to get on the scoreboard, produced their first shot on target in the 22nd minute. Aaliyah Faddoul fired a shot from outside the box, demanding a skillful save from the James Madison goalkeeper.
In the 36th minute, Aaliyah Faddoul took another powerful shot that narrowly cleared the crossbar, marking the Panthers' second and final shot attempt of the first half. As the half was winding down, in the 40th minute, Jaddah Foos made a spectacular save, expertly tipping the ball just past the goalpost, resulting in a corner kick. This extraordinary save maintained the score at 0-0 as the teams headed into halftime.
At half, James Madison held the advantage in shots, tallying four to Georgia State's two, and also led in shots on target, with two to Georgia State's one. The corner kicks were evenly matched at one each.
The second half started similarly to the first, with James Madison taking the first two shots on goal. In the 55th minute, Maddie Johnston's attempt went just wide on a deflected cross into the box.
Alondra Nieves would create the next set of opportunities for the Panthers, firing three shots within a five-minute span. The second shot tested the goalkeeper, demanding a fantastic save from the James Madison keeper.
James Madison would intensify their offensive efforts, unleashing six consecutive shots on goal, which demanded two more remarkable saves from Jaddah Foos. The Panthers' defensive line, comprised of Eva Diez Lois, Therese Guldager, and Kaitlyn Vance, effectively cleared the ball whenever the pressure seemed overwhelming.
In their final push, the Panthers orchestrated an attack off a corner kick. The ball found its way to Brook Nelson, who unleashed a powerful shot. However, the attempt ricocheted off a James Madison defender and landed in the goalkeeper's hands, preserving the 0-0 draw.
James Madison accumulated a total of 17 shots, while Georgia State managed to unleash seven shots during the game. Additionally, James Madison held the advantage in shots on target, recording seven compared to Georgia State's three. The corner kicks also favored James Madison, as they had seven, whereas Georgia State had four.
Georgia St. moved to 8-3-5 overall and 4-2-2 in Sun Belt action with the draw.
The Panthers are scheduled to return to the pitch on Sunday, October 22nd, at 12:30 PM when they travel to face Old Dominion on the road.
