NORFOLK, -- Georgia State and Old Dominion played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday (Oct. 22) at the ODU Soccer Complex. Jaddah Foos, the Panthers' goalkeeper, made four saves during the match. This marked a significant milestone in her career, as it was her 20th career shutout, and she secured her fifth shutout of the season.
Old Dominion began the game with the first three shots on goal. Georgia State registered its initial shot of the day in the 23rd minute when Elena Diaz fired a shot that required a save from the Old Dominion goalkeeper. The Panthers quickly created another opportunity in the 29th minute when a powerful strike by Alondra Nieves was saved by the keeper.
Old Dominion had their best chance of the half during a counter-attack in the 30th minute, forcing Jaddah Foos to make her first save of the game. The Panthers had two promising opportunities in quick succession during the 40th and 41st minutes, with both Bree Barley and Aaliyah Faddoul taking shots on goal that were saved by the ODU goalkeeper.
At halftime, Georgia State led in shots with six to Old Dominion's five. The Panthers also held the advantage in shots on target, with four to one, and in corner kicks, leading three to one.
The second half began similarly to the first, with Old Dominion taking the first two shots, both on target, which demanded two more brilliant saves from Jaddah Foos. The Panthers would then have their best chance of the half in the 50th minute when Aaliyah Faddoul sprinted past the defense, finding herself one-on-one with the Old Dominion keeper. The Old Dominion keeper rushed Faddoul and executed a brilliant save, keeping the score tied at 0-0.
Over the next 20 minutes, Old Dominion would dominate in terms of shots, but the Panthers' defensive line, consisting of Eva Diez Lois, Therese Guldager, and Kaitlyn Vance, proved resolute in safeguarding their goal and assisting Jaddah Foos in clearing any potential threats. The Panthers would record their second and final shot on target of the second half in the 79th minute when Olivia Cohen unleashed a powerful strike, which was effectively saved by the Old Dominion keeper, preserving the scoreline at 0-0.
In the closing minutes, the Panthers managed to defend against two corner kicks effectively, securing the 0-0 draw. In the second half, Old Dominion held the advantage in shots, leading five to three, and shots on target, with a three to two margin. ODU also had the upper hand in corner kicks, with three to Georgia State's two.
