Georgia State forward
Alondra Nieves is the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after she scored three goals last week, including a two-goal effort to lead the Panthers to a road win at Marshall.
The junior from Clover, S.C., opened the week by scoring Georgia State's only goal in a 2-1 loss at Georgia Southern.Â
Just three days later the Panthers traveled to Marshall, and Nieves wasted no time, scoring in the sixth minute to give GSU the early lead. With Georgia State holding a 2-1 lead in the second half, she delivered again in the 67th minute and sent the Panthers to the 4-1 victory.
With four goals in the last four games, Nieves is now tied for second in the Sun Belt with seven goals while ranking seventh with 15 points. She is tied for the league lead with four goals in Sun Belt games.
Nieves' honor marks the fourth Sun Belt Player of the Week honor for the Panthers season, along with
Eva Diez Lois (Defensive Player of the Week, Oct. 2) and
Aaliyah Faddoul (Offensive Player of the Week, Aug. 22 and Sept. 25).
NIeves and the Panthers host James Madison Thursday at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
