BOONE, N.C. -- Georgia State continued a tough road stretch with a 71-59 loss at Appalachian State Thursday night at the Holmes Center.

Jamaine Mann led the Panthers (9-12, 2-7 Sun Belt) with 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting and eight rebounds. Brenden Tucker (11 points) and Collin Moore (10 points) joined him in double figures, while Ja'Heim Hudson had eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.

The Panthers were again undone by a sluggish start, falling behind 42-27 at the half as App State shot 57 percent from the field, including 5-for-11 from 3-point range.

"The first five, six, seven minutes...we've got to find a way to come out of the gate stronger," head coach Jonas Hayes said.

"We've got to continue to work diligently on the offensive end to get good looks," he continued. "We need to stay consistent with our approach and good things will happen. We're going to immerse ourselves in the process and learn from these experiences."

Georgia State's defense was much more effective in the second half, holding App to just 32 percent (7-for-22) from the field, while the Panthers managed to shoot nearly 50 percent. For the game, Georgia State shot 44 percent, but the Panthers were just 5-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Terence Harcum scored 21 points to lead the Mountaineers (12-10, 5-4), who held a 37-28 advantage on the boards.

The Panthers will play their fourth straight road game Saturday night at Marshall, one of the top teams in the Sun Belt at 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the league.
