On the Road Again, Panthers Play at App State Thursday

Third of Four Straight Road Games

THE TIPOFF: Georgia State makes its second straight weekend road trip, beginning Thursday at App State with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff at the Holmes Center in Boone, N.C. From there, the Panthers will head north to Marshall for their fourth straight road game on Saturday.

> GSU (9-11, 2-6 Sun Belt) is coming off a 58-52 loss at Georgia Southern.

> Ja'Heim Hudson scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Panthers to a 100-66 win over Coastal Carolina (Jan. 14) in which GSU set season-highs for points, 3-pointers (16), field goal percentage (.638) and assists (26) while holding the Chanticleers to 35 percent shooting. 

> Hudson averages 11.1 points on the season and leads GSU in rebounding (7.4/8th in Sun Belt) and blocked shots (19) while ranking second with 19 steals.

> Junior guard Brenden Tucker is averaging 14.5 ppg in Sun Belt play (12.6 overall), including two 20-point games. He recorded season highs with 25 points and six rebounds at ULM, including 10-of-13 free throws. Last week, Tucker scored 21 points vs. Troy and 19 vs. Coastal Carolina.

> Sophomore guard Collin Moore returned from injury (thumb) and made an immediate impact in his first two games of the season. After scoring 10 points at Old Dominion in his season debut, Moore had a career-high 17 points with five rebounds last time out at Georgia Southern.

> Sophomore guard Dwon Odom leads the Panthers in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (65) and steals (21) while ranking second on the team in rebounding (4.9 pg) and blocked shots (14).

> Odom,  No. 9 in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring, has reached 20 points four times, including a career-high 27 in the win over UNC Asheville and 24 vs. Belmont. He handed out a career-high 11 assists vs. Coastal Carolina.

> The Panthers rank fifth in the Sun Belt and No. 49 in DI in scoring defense, holding their opponents to 64.3 points per game. 

> Georgia State ranks No. 2 in the Sun Belt in free throw shooting at 73.6 percent.

> Georgia State has made at least one 3-point field goal in 850 straight games, dating back to the 1994-95 season. The last team to hold the Panthers without a trey was Stetson on Feb. 18, 1995. The streak is among the top 25 in the nation.

SERIES NOTES: Georgia State has won two in a row over App State. Last season, App State won in Atlanta, 61-60 on a last-second shot, but the Panthers won at Boone, 58-49, and then 71-66 in the Sun Belt semifinals.

> Georgia State leads the all-time series 10-9, including a 10-7 advantage in the Sun Belt era. Before App State joined the conference in 2014-15, the only previous meetings were in 1988-89 and 1989-90, both won by App State.

> The two schools have met in the Sun Belt Tournament the last two years. Georgia State defeated the Mountaineers 71-66 in last year's semifinals, but App State won 80-73 in the 2021 title game.

> Georgia State is 4-6 in Boone. Before last year's win, the Panthers also won at App State three straight years from 2018-20.
