Nyla Jean scored 14 points but Georgia State fell to Texas State 64-48 at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcox, Texas on Thursday afternoon.
Jean's 14 points led all Panther scorers and equals her career-high set against Winthrop on November 21. The sophomore from Tampa, Fla. shot 3-of-5 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line with three assists.
Deasia Merrill added 10 points and four rebounds.
Mikyla Tolivert scored seven points and Alyssa Phillip led GSU with five rebounds off the bench.
Georgia State (8-10, 2-3 Sun Belt) struggled offensively, shooting 36.2 percent from the field and 1-of-8 from three while getting outrebounded 42-25 and 15-5 on the offensive glass.
Texas State (3-2, 11-5) made their first three baskets to jump out to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed, outscoring GSU 16-7 in in the first quarter and 15-8 in the second to take a 31-15 lead into halftime.
Down 44-21 with 3:36 left in the third, GSU rallied with a 10-2 run, but would get no closer than 15 points for the rest of the game.
Georgia State will face James Madison on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
