Panthers Fall in Round Two with Marshall

HUNTINGTON- The Panthers fell in three sets to the Herd in the Friday afternoon rematch, (25-20, 25-23, 25-16). The story of the afternoon for the Panthers was errors. As a team they recorded 24 attacking errors – twice as many as the opponent, alongside two setting errors, eight service errors, and three blocking errors.
 
The Herd took an early lead in set one, going up 5-4 over the Panthers. The Panthers were able to claw their way back into the match after going down 18-11. An amazing dig by Ryan Spicer-Gordon led to an Erin Wyatt kill off a Maren Palmer assist to tie it up at 18-all.
 


The 7-0 run by the Panthers came to an end after a couple of errors by the Panthers. The Herd would go on to win the set 25-20.
 
Both teams struggled to get anything going in set two. Tied up at 11, the Herd went on a 4-0 scoring run to give them the 15-11 advantage. Freshman, Crystal Galaviz, had a couple of big swings to help keep the Panthers in it and ignite a Panthers 4-0 scoring run.
 


Julianna Truscott picked up from where she left off last night with a big swing to bring the Panthers within one, but the Herd were able to close and won the set 25-23.
 


Set three was plagued by errors for the Panthers. Marshall opened the set with an early lead and did not relinquish it. The Herd took set three 25 – 16.
 
Erin Wyatt led all Panthers with 10 kills, her sixth double-digit kill performance of the season. The outside hitter tacked on six digs and a block. Maren Palmer dished out 15 assists, 7 digs, and an ace. Jenna Brown notched 17 assists and four digs. Julianna Truscott put down eight kills, bringing her season total to 136. Clara Bednarek recorded six kills, two blocks, and an ace, while Crystal Galaviz and Izzy Durnell each notched five kills. Ava Vlkovic recorded two aces. In the back row, Livy Kowalkowski and Ryan Spicer-Gordon picked up eight and seven digs respectively.
 
The Panthers are finally returning home after a month-long road trip. They will host Appalachian State on Thursday, October 6 at 6 p.m. ET for the annual Dig Pink night.
