Trio of Goals Lift Panthers to Victory, 3-1, Over Coastal Carolina

Conway, S.C.— Georgia State women's soccer secured a conference victory on the road facing Coastal Carolina on Sunday with a trio of goals from forwards Alondra Nieves, Bree Barley and Maddie Johnston. With the 3-1 victory over the Sun Belt foe in Conway, the Panthers improve to 5-1-5 overall for the season.

GSU took a 1-0 lead with the goal by Nieves off an assist from Elena Diaz. The goal in the 20th minute was the first of the season for the sophomore forward.

Barley's unassisted goal in the 44th minute tacked on an additional point for the Panthers as the team took a 2-0 lead. The sophomore forward has connected on two goals this season for GSU.

Charting a team-high fourth goal for the year, Johnston gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with a third goal for GSU off an assist from Nieves in the 52nd minute. The junior has accounted for 17 shots this season and ranks second on the team in that category.

Coastal Carolina managed a goal in the 56th minute before the Panthers closed the match with a victory, 3-1. GSU notched seven shots for the match while goalkeeper Jaddah Foos recorded two saves. 

GSU moves to 1-0-2 in SBC play with the win.

The Panthers return home on Sunday, Oct. 2 and will host SBC opponent Troy for Senior Day. The match set to kick at 1 p.m. ET will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live stats available to fans.
