Panthers Drop Conference Battle Facing Troy

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's soccer fell short of victory at home facing Troy on Sunday despite a pair of goals from junior midfielder Elena Diaz and sophomore forward Bree Barley.

Six seniors were recognized prior to the match for the team's Senior Day ceremony. Sisters Kamree Holloway and Kelsee Holloway, Saraya Mosley, Maria Howell, Mia Wood and graduate transfer Lauren O'Hearn were all escorted by friends and family as the team honored the seniors in their final season of competition for GSU.

GSU fell behind early in the match as Troy took a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the fourth minute.

After a foul that resulted in a penalty kick being awarded to the Panthers, Diaz capitalized off the opportunity to equalize the match, 1-1. The junior transfer ties teammate Maddie Johnston for a team-high in goals with four following the successfully PK try.

Troy managed a pair of goals in the 58th and 72nd minutes to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead over the Panthers.

Barley found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute bringing the match to within one score, 3-2. The sophomore has now notched three goals for the season and is tied for second on the team in scoring.

Despite the late goal by Barley, the Panthers were unable to find another opportunity to equalize and fell, 3-2, against the SBC foe Troy on Sunday.

The Panthers drop to 5-2-5 with the loss and prepare to continue Sun Belt Conference play next week visiting Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. on Thursday, Oct. 6. The 7 p.m. ET match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with live stats available to fans.
