Six Years Have "Flown By" for Veteran Bartlett

Football Practice Report Presented by Checkers

ATLANTA -- Veteran offensive guard Pat Bartlett has seen plenty in his six years at Georgia State.

Bartlett is one of 10 "super seniors" on the Georgia State roster, players who have taken advantage of the extra season of eligibility as a result of the pandemic.

"Six years, and every minute of it has absolutely flown by," said Bartlett as he and the Panthers prepare to open Sun Belt Conference play by hosting Coastal Carolina in a Thursday night, nationally-televised game.

In December of 2016, as a senior in high school, Bartlett took a call from Georgia State's new head coach, Shawn Elliott, but the Newtown, Pa., native wasn't familiar with the Atlanta university or its fledgling football program.

"I had never really heard of Georgia State, so I had to look it up on my phone," Bartlett recalled.

A few weeks later, Bartlett visited Georgia State and found himself standing on a baseball field with a Panther head painted in the middle as the former Turner Field as was being transformed into the new home for Georgia State football.

"Coach Elliott was able to really sell me on what he envisioned and what he was trying to create here. I knew I wanted to be a part of it."

Since then, Bartlett has been a huge part of Georgia State's success, starting 44 straight games and helping the Panthers average 224 yards rushing per game while playing in three straight bowl games. He earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2021.

Kickoff for Thursday's game at Center Parc Stadium is at 7:30 p.m., and the game will air on ESPN2 and the Georgia State Radio network, including WRAS-FM 88.5 and the GSU athletics mobile app.
