Gregg, Williams Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

ATLANTA -- Georgia State All-Sun Belt Conference running backs Tucker Gregg and Jamyest Williams were named Wednesday to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top college running back by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

Gregg and Williams combined for 1,812 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns last fall as the Panthers ranked No. 8 in FBS with 226.4 rushing yards per game on the way to a school-record eight victories and their second-straight bowl win.

Doak Walker Award Watch List

Gregg, the super senior from Chatsworth, Ga. (Murray County High School) earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2021 as he ranked third in the league with 953 yards--the second-highest season total in program history--and fourth with nine touchdowns. The former walk-on is now the No. 3 rusher in Georgia State history with 1,560 yards and 16 touchdowns entering 2022.

Williams, a super senior from Athens, Ga. (Grayson High School) had GSU's third-best season rushing total with 859 yards, good for fifth in the Sun Belt, along with nine touchdowns. The honorable mention All-Sun Belt selection averaged a school-record 6.71 yards per carry, the sixth-best mark in FBS. Since moving from cornerback to running back midway through the 2020 season, Williams has rushed for 1,112 yards (eighth in school history) and nine touchdowns in 21 games.

The recipient of the 2022 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards. The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker.
