Named the Georgia State head coach on April 6, Coach Hayes returns to his Atlanta hometown after leading Xavier to the 2022 NIT Championship while serving as the interim head coach. He takes over a Georgia State program that captured the 2022 Sun Belt Conference title and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, the third NCAA Tournament trip in the last five years and the fifth in the last eight years for the Panthers.
Â
Since the 2013-14 season, Georgia State has won more games (187) than any other Division I basketball program in the state of Georgia.
Â
Eastern Kentucky is coming off a season in which it ranked in the Top 20 nationally in scoring as well as 3-point field goals and steals. Asheville earned a post-season berth in the 2022 CBI, while Texas A&M-Commerce will be playing its first Division I season after reaching the NCAA Division II Tournament four of the last six years.
