John Olerud Award Semifinalist Cameron Jones Does It All

ATLANTA -- Georgia State's versatile standout Cameron Jones, the Panthers' leading hitter and a top pitcher, has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the John Olerud Award, presented annually to the nation's outstanding two-way player.

Jones, a sophomore from Kathleen, Ga., and Georgia State's starting first baseman, is hitting a-team high .374 with five homers, 12 doubles, 29 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He is fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in batting average.

The left-handed reliever is also one of the Panthers' top pitchers, with a 2.57 ERA and a .202 average against and 36 strikeouts in 35 innings. He ranks seventh in the Sun Belt with five saves.

In 2021, he was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as the utility player.

This season, he has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and John Olerud Award Two-Way Player of the Week.

The John Olerud Award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and went on to a 17-year Major League career. The award will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this summer.
