Clark, Jackson Lead 5-4 Win to Complete Sweep at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, ARK -- Freshman JoJo Jackson drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning and reliever Seth Clark had a career-high nine strikeouts as Georgia State completed a sweep at Arkansas State with a 5-4 victory at Tomlinson Stadium.

Georgia State improved to 30-23 overall and 15-13 in the Sun Belt Conference, tying the school record for Sun Belt wins originally set in 2015. The Panthers' earned their fourth three-game conference sweep of the season and second on the road, after sweeps of Little Rock (home), South Alabama (home) and Coastal Carolina (road).

The Panthers stole seven bases today and went 17-for-19 on the basepaths in the three-game series.

With the game tied at 4-all in the eighth inning, Cameron Jones doubled to right center with one out. Then Jackson came on to pinch hit against Arkansas State (11-35, 5-21) righty Trey Jeans, and the freshman switch hitter delivered an opposite-field single down the left field line to score Jones with the go-ahead run.

Clark, the junior left-hander, came on with two outs in bottom of the fifth with Georgia State holding a 3-2 lead but runners second and third. He struck out Sam Fagan to end the threat and went on to record five straight strikeouts. Although he allowed back-to-back solo homers in the seventh inning, he went on to finish the game, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out nine of the 16 batters he faced. After GSU regained the lead in the top of the eighth, he fanned two in the eighth and then two more in the ninth to earn the victory and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Georgia State took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Josh Smith brought home one when he reached on an error, and then Boynton produced a two-out, two-run single off the wall in left for a 3-0 advantage.

After ULM cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, Boynton scored the Panthers' fourth run in the sixth as he reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a throwing error, moved to third on a walk and then scored on a fielder's choice by DeAngelo Abboud.

Boynton, Jones and Dalton Pearson had hits for the Georgia State, which concludes the regular season by hosting Sun Belt leader and nationally-ranked Texas State at the GSU Baseball Complex in a three-game series that begins Thursday at 6 p.m.
